We Might Now Know the Reason the FBI Raided Melania Trump’s Closet at Mar-a-Lago

When the FBI executed that search warrant and combed through former President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago nearly two weeks ago, they left a bit of a mess behind, especially in regards to Melania’s closet where they were looking for…I’m not sure.

But an unhappy Donald Trump complained about it on Truth Social with his usual “I’m a victim, everyone else is evil” blather.

“My attorneys and representatives were cooperating fully, and very good relationships had been established. The government could have had whatever they wanted, if we had it,” Trump wrote. “They asked us to put an additional lock on a certain area — DONE! Everything was fine, better than that of most Presidents, and then, out of nowhere and with no warning, Mar-a-Lago was raided, at 6:30 in the morning, by VERY large numbers of agents, and even ‘safecrackers.’ They got way ahead of themselves. Crazy!”

But Trump didn’t complain about Melania’s closet cataclysm until his next post.

” ….Just learned that agents went through the First Lady’s closets and rummaged through her clothing and personal items. Surprisingly, left area in a relative mess. Wow!” he complained.

It’s not clear if any of Melania Trump’s belongings were seized, but any clothing worn for official state events was supposed to be turned over to the National Archives when Trump’s term ended.

And since the FBI was there on behalf of the National Archives, it would make sense they would be looking for any clothing Melania wore during a State event, especially since Melania is the type to think that clothing belonged to her, and not the people of the United States of America.

“For official events of public or historic significance, such as a state visit, the first lady’s clothes may be given as a gift by a designer and accepted on behalf of the U.S. government,” said Joanna Rosholm, the press secretary for former first lady Michelle Obama, in a 2014 interview with the Associated Press. “They are then stored by the National Archives.”

During a press conference last week, Attorney General Merrick Garland, who signed off on the raid and defended the Department of Justice and federal law enforcement from an onslaught of criticism from the Trump faithful, saying the agents were “dedicated, patriotic servants.”

But he also said the department tried to use “less intrusive methods,” confirming that the DOJ tried to subpoena Trump before finally resorting to the raid.

FBI agents are still carefully sifting through the seized documents, NBC News reports. The agency has appointed a filter team — a small group of agents who are largely independent of the overall operation. Those agents have the task of separating out documents that aren’t covered by attorney-client privilege and material that isn’t deemed important to the investigation.

Officials say the team is also checking to see if other documents not marked classified may have classified documents inside.

If Trump had been as cooperative as he claims, agents wouldn’t have to be doing any of this. The FBI wouldn’t have had to conduct the raid and mess up Melania’s closet.
