Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF), the inventor of FTX, has once again generated headlines. Bankman-Fried indicated at the DealBook Summit that FTX US is “completely solvent” and capable of being fully restored. According to SBF, withdrawals “may be initiated now.”

As we reported last week, the disgraced founder of FTX was scheduled to speak alongside US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at today’s New York Times DealBook Conference.

On November 11, the embattled cryptocurrency exchange FTX filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. As soon as the news surfaced, disgraced FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried (also known as SBF) resigned as CEO of the cryptocurrency exchange FTX Group, and John J. Ray III was named the new CEO.

It is becoming increasingly apparent that the FTX disaster is more severe than the majority of people understand. According to the court records (see PDF below), the FTX Group is a complex network of 134 corporate organizations around the world. Currently, all 134 of these companies have been declared bankrupt.

During the bankruptcy hearing in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, newly appointed FTX CEO John Ray III, who also oversaw Enron’s bankruptcy, stated that in “his 40 years of legal and restructuring experience” he had never seen “such a complete failure of corporate controls and such a complete absence of trustworthy financial information as occurred here.”

The balance sheets for FTX and its sister company Alameda Research were “unaudited and generated while the Debtors [FTX] were under the control of Mr. Bankman-Fried,” Ray alleged in his lawsuit, adding that he “lacked confidence” in their veracity.

As previously reported, the Bahamas Securities Commission (BSC) has placed a freeze on the assets of FTX Digital Markets “and related parties.” In an effort to place FTX in receivership or bankruptcy, the BSC has also appointed a provisional liquidator, according to a statement issued Thursday night.
